WHAT IS GRAD NITE?
The two highest
risk nights for teens are prom and graduation.
Teens attend parties throughout the year, but peer pressure is highest
on these two nights. Many students feel
as if they haven't really celebrated if they haven't been drinking or using
other drugs. Unfortunately, some
parents condone drinking parties rationalizing that since the students are
going to drink anyway, why not provide them a place, take their keys and watch
over them? Unfortunately, the role
models our students have -- TV, movies, newspapers, magazines, and we, as
parents and community members -- all seem to send the same message: alcohol and/or other drugs are needed to
celebrate an important occasion.
It is not enough to
tell our students to "Just say, 'No!'" We must give them an alternative to which they can and will say,
"Yes!" This is why we have
Grad Nite at Kennedy High School. We
love our students and they're worth it!
We are giving them a chance to make memories, keep them alive, build a
tradition, and provide an alternative to which they can and will say,
"Yes!"
Grad Nite can only
be a success when we have the combined support of parents planning the
celebrations, the backing of the school and local government, and the generous
support of our community. Students like
celebrating all night with their friends and, at more and more schools, this
has become the way to celebrate these special occasions. Communities throughout the country are
reaching out to their young people with love, encouraging them to
"Celebrate Life!" All of us
working together can and have made a difference.
Contribution Agreement
We need your
help to make Grad Nite a success. We
need cash contributions in order to keep the ticket price low, we need prizes
(appropriate for teenagers) and various services. Please talk with a Grad Nite Committee Member to learn how you
